Gangs of Wasseypur: Part 1 (15) - Sunday 24th February, 13:30

This epic, two-part Indian drama explores the violent battle between two criminal families across several decades. The story begins in the 1940s, just prior to India’s independence. Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat) impersonates the legendary Sultana Daku in order to rob a British government train. However, the Qureshi clans discover Shahid’s deception and forever banish both him and his family. The outcast Shahid later comes to work in a colliery, employed as the muscleman of the ruthless Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia), who enlists Shahid to terrorise local land-owners. But Shahid’s own quest for power means he’s eventually murdered by Singh - spurring a violent conflict that will engulf future generations of their respective families. Several years later, Shahid’s vengeful son Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai) vows to restore the honour of his father’s name. Anurag Kashyap’s uncompromising, violent and ambitious drama is a sprawling saga of two families at war, one that plays out against the turbulent political backdrop of India.
